Nigeria’ll be a world power if … –Ex-CJN
A
former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore, has said that
Nigeria will not only be among the world powers but among the greatest
economies of the world, if the country remained stable till the next 10
years.
Belgore said this in Ilorin, Kwara
State, on Wednesday during a summit by members of the Ilorin Emirate
under the aegis of ‘Third Estate,’ a group of professionals of Ilorin
emirate origin.
He said the prediction that Nigeria
would disintegrate by 2015 and the Boko Haram menace were aimed at
obliterating the corporate existence of the country.
“If we are stable for the next 10 years,
Nigeria would be among not only world powers, it would be among the
greatest economies too. We have everything on the ground. There is no
state in Nigeria without mineral and plenty of rainfall. We have water
everywhere. We have everything to make a great country,” he said.
Chairman, Third Estate, Dr. Yusuf Lawal;
and the Vice-President, Igbo Delegates Assembly for the Northern states
and Abuja, Mr. Truelove Njoku, called on the Federal Government and the
Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that the 2015
elections were transparent.
Lawal, who urged members of the Emirate,
the Government and people of Kwara State and all northerners to
aggregate and articulate their interests so as to make good inputs
during the proposed national conference, decried thuggery and high
poverty level in Nigeria.
Njoku said the national conference
proposed by the Federal Government should be used to discuss issues that
would strengthen Nigeria’s unity and development.
He said Igbo people were opposed to the
disintegration of Nigeria and warned that it would be unwise and
counter-productive for anybody to seek the disintegration of the
country.
