Court remands Ogun monarch, others for attempted murder

A Magistrate Court, sitting in Ado-Odo, Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State on Thursday remanded the Baale of Alapoti, Chief Mufutau Obabiyi, in prison over alleged attempted murder and abduction of a police inspector, Mulero Joseph, and one Morufu Sumonu.
Mufutau was remanded by the court along with four other persons over the alleged offence.
The accused were earlier arraigned before Magistrate Olukayode Ilo by the police on three counts of conspiracy, felony and kidnapping.
The charge sheet reads partly, “Chief Obabiyi, Chief Erubami Saheed, Saka Yakubu, Saka Iyanbo, Afisu Oke also known as Surutu and others still at large on September 16, 2012 at Kofunlerin Village in Ado
Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State allegedly conspired to commit felony-kidnapping thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 516 of the criminal code, cap 77 law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as applicable in Ogun State.”
The Prosecutor, Akin Owanade from Force CID, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos told the court that the suspects allegedly kidnapped Morufu Sumonu on the same date and thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 364 of the criminal code, Cap 77.
